Why Making Your Bed Every Morning Matters

DECLUTTERING & SYSTEMS

There was once a season in my life when making my bed simply wasn’t a priority.

In all honesty, I would wake up, get ready for work or school, and go about my day without giving it a second thought. My mindset was, “Who cares? No one is going to see my bed anyway.”

What I didn’t realize at the time was that these small habits were revealing something much bigger about how I approached responsibility.

I considered myself a responsible and accountable person, but I began to realize that responsibility isn’t only demonstrated through the big things we do. It can also be seen in how we care for the small things that have already been placed in our hands.

As I grew in my relationship with God, I began thinking differently about stewardship.

How can I expect God to trust me with greater responsibilities if I am not willing to faithfully take care of what He has already given me?

Sometimes, the things we consider insignificant are actually opportunities to practice discipline, consistency, and faithfulness.

And making your bed is one of those things.

It Only Takes a Few Minutes

Making your bed takes far less time than we often imagine.

Just a few minutes.

Out of the twenty-four hours we have in a day, that is such a small investment.

Yet sometimes, even a small task can feel overwhelming when we look at it as one big thing.

I often wondered what it was about making the bed that made it so easy to avoid. Maybe it’s the size. When you look at tangled sheets, blankets thrown everywhere, and pillows scattered across the bed, it can seem like more work than it actually is.

But what if we stopped looking at the entire task and simply started?

Pull the sheets up.

Straighten the blanket.

Fluff the pillows.

That's it.

You don't have to make your bed perfectly. You just have to make it.
